1 All machined castings shall be capable of meeting compressor assembly leak test specification after being assembled into a compressor.
If castings are machined and assembled at a thermo king plant, passing the compressor assembly level specifications is acceptable in lue of component level test in note 7.2.
1.1 Reference: compressor assembly leak test.
1.1.1 Compressor is assembled.
1.1.2 Prior to vacuum chamber leak test, evacuate to a minimum vacuum level of 20 inches of mercury below atmosphere.
After evacuation, the test part shall be charged with helium trace gas.
1.1.3 Charge with helium trace gas to pressure of 200-260PSIG(215-275PSIA).
Parts shall be pressurized to this pressure for a minimum of 30 seconds prior to leakage measurement.
1.1.4 After charging, leak test within 5 minutes.
If a test part is charged with helium for an extended period of time before the leak test, then there is a risk of false rejection due to helium outgassing.
1.1.5 Leak test by placing the test part(with O-rings, fixture assembly ETC.) Inside a vacuum chamber and measuring the cumulative leakage of the helium trace gas.
1.1.6 Test acceptance requires that the cumulative leakage of the trace gas mixture be no greater than 1.34×10-4 ATM CC/SEC, based on the use of 100% helium.
1.1.7 Reference ASTM E493-97(Test method B) leak test method.
2 If castings are shipped from supplier as machined castings, all components shall be capable of meeting the following level leak specification.
Component level leak test to also be performed as a qualification test and/or at thermo king discretion.
2.1 Use appropriate block off plates, O-rings,plugs,gaskets and hardware.
2.2 Prior to vacuum chamber leak test, evacuate to a minimum vacuum level of 20 inches of mercury below atmosphere.
After evacuation, the test part shall be charged with helium trace gas.
2.3 Charge with helium trace gas to a pressure of 200±10PSIG(215±10PSIA) .
Parts shall be pressurized to this test pressure for a minimum of 30 seconds prior to leakage measurement.
2.4 After charging, leak test within 5 minutes.
If a test part is charged with helium for an extended period of time before the leak test, then there is a risk of false rejection due to helium outgassing.
2.5 Leak test by placing the test part(with O-rings, fixture assembly, ETC.) inside a vacuum chamber and measuring the cumulative leakage of the helium trace gas.
2.6 Test acceptance requires that the cumulative leakage of the trace gas mixture be no greater than 1×10-4 ATM CC/SEC, based on the use of 100% helium.
2.7 Reference ASTM E493-97(test method B) leak test method.
