How to use helium leak detection equipment

In order to standardize the use of helium leak detection equipment, it is necessary to pre-evacuate the sample before filling the leak detection gas. If the air in the sample is not exhausted before charging, the air in the sample will be squeezed to the end of the geometric space, and the gas in the helium leak detection device cannot enter this part. Therefore, hidden leak detection holes will only release gas and cannot be detected by leak detection equipment.

 

The leak holes of helium leak detection equipment are usually small or narrow. If the leak hole is put into a water tank before the leak gas test, the leak hole or capillary will be blocked or filled with water, which will greatly affect the leak measurement results.

 

Before adding leaking gas, it is necessary to quickly test whether there is a large leak. A simple test for large leaks is to empty the sample for a short period of time and observe the emptying pressure. If the sample can hold the empty pressure, there are no large leak holes, and leak detection gas can be added.

 

If the airtight leak detector does not perform leak detection under high pressure during operation, some leak holes cannot be detected by the helium leak detection equipment. Therefore, using higher test pressures during leak detection can effectively detect leak holes not seen during operation.

 

The detectable leakage rate in the leak test has a great relationship with the background concentration of the leaked gas. The greater the background density, the greater the fluctuation. If the gas is released into the leak test area after the leak test, the background concentration will continue to increase throughout the working day. Also, during filling or draining, ensure that no gas escapes and periodically check the connectors for leaks.

 

If the leakage gas leaks helium and hydrogen, it will fly to the roof of the leakage area like a balloon, and gradually float in the entire leakage area. Therefore, adequate ventilation should be provided for the leak test area. Since both leak detection gases are focused on upward movement, it is recommended to enter fresh air from the bottom and exhaust from the top.
